It Only Took a Year to Organize My Drawers

Those of you who know me really well know that I'm a bit of an organization freak - borderline OCD even.  Well, you may be surprised, but my kitchen drawers have been in a big ole mess for over a year!  I can't believe it took so long to finally whip them into shape.  Because I live in the middle of nowhere, and the closest Container Store or Bed, Bath and Beyond is about 2 hours away; ordering some online would be the easiest/cheapest way to go for me.  I decided on these bamboo organizers from Amazon.  I like how you can make different combinations of them to fit your drawer. They're so much nicer than those cheap one-size-fits-all silverware dividers that are usually too small for your drawers anyway.  And every single one of the drawers in my kitchen is a different size.  What's that about?  So I played around with them for a few days to figure out which configuration would be best for all my kitchen gadgets.  And I have a LOT of kitchen gadgets that needed organizing.

I also ordered this organizer for all my serving spoons and steak knives.  Everything fit in perfectly!

Don't they look so nice?  I love being organized.  And putting all this stuff in these organizers emptied out one whole drawer on the other side of the island!  Whoo-hoo!  Check off another item on the To Do List.  So now it's time to do the bathroom and laundry room drawers!

Master Bedroom

Paint:  BM Sidewalk Gray

Thanks to my wonderful grandparents, we have a new King size mattress!  And of course we had to get some new bedding that would fit the bigger mattress.  Oh this new bed is pure heaven!  Once you go king sized, you never go back.

Now we need a headboard to go with the new bed.  I think I want an upholstered one, but I'm open to other ideas too (maybe metal?).  And then we'll need some nightstands to go better with the new headboard, (I'm thinking either a silver/mirrored finish or black) and eventually work towards a new dresser and chest of drawers.  Our current Mission-style furniture just doesn't go with the feel I'm going for in here, that and it sticks out too much.

We also need some art above the bed, but of course I'll have to figure out the headboard first.  I want to enlarge a picture from our honeymoon and have it printed in black and white.  And then we need a few more pictures and accessories to complete the room.

We've gotten a lot done in the 3 months we've been here in the new house...

Dining Room Update

I found a cool mirror and a pair of Chinese rubbings to hang in my dining room.

We also had a piece of glass cut for the top of our table, so it will be super easy to wipe clean after we eat.
I'm still working on finding an area rug and some drapes or curtains in here.  And I may have to change the fabric on the chairs.  The cinnamon/rust color is just not working for me.  It's not one of my colors.

Even though it is a dining room and I want to display my pretty wedding gifts, I don't want it to feel too too formal.  I want it to be a comfy place to eat, play games, and have casual get-togethers, not a museum where you can't touch anything.

So here's what the room looks like now.

And click here to see what the dining room looked like when we bought the furniture over New Years.  Eh, it's a start.  A rug and drapes are my priorities right now.  I just have to find the right ones!  It takes time.

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy New Year! Happy New Dining Room Furniture!

I’m way behind again on updating you all about the happenings of our new house.  We moved in the first weekend in December and we’re gradually getting everything organized and in place.  More pictures to come on each room later!

I did manage to get a few Christmas decorations out in the short time I had before December 25.  I decided to do my tree in purple this year, for something fun and different!

And of course I had to put my Mizzou snowmen out.

Then, New Year’s weekend we bought some dining room furniture so I had to take my tree down in a hurry (I set it up in the dining room so it wasn’t empty).

Ta da!  It’s an antique Duncan Phyfe style set.  We bought the table, 6 chairs, china cabinet and buffet from a super nice couple in Alabama.  The chairs have just recently been recovered and I actually like the fabric that’s on them!  I may try to incorporate some more dragonflies into my decor in this room.

Now it’s time for a list!

To Do:

-Curtains

-Area rug

-Mirror over buffet

-Dragonfly art

Inspiration: Cabinet Pulls

Just gathering some creative inspiration for my kitchen cabinet pulls and knobs.

WARNING:  Picture overload!

This first set of images are of half-moon pulls.

Ohmygod, white subway tiles in a chevron pattern!!!  I die! (This has nothing to do with cabinet pulls, but I found it while browsing and had to share.)

These picutres are of more fancy handles.

Inspiration: Bonus Room/Woman Cave

We’re getting very very close to moving into our new house!  The first weekend in November cannot get here fast enough!

I’ve been doing lots of decorating and gathering ideas for each room and one space I’m particularly excited about is the bonus room.  It’s going to be my woman cave!

A little space to put my computer, to watch my tv shows, chill out with my girlfriends, and just relax.  This is my room, no boys allowed.  They can have the basement.

And you know it’s got to be PINK.  Duh!

Ok so this last one is purple.  But it’s my second favorite color and just as girly.

House Update - September

I know, I know…there has been a serious lack of posting for the past month.  What can I say?  Us Craders are busy people!  Besides building a house, we had an unexpected vacation in Virginia, C had his 10 Year High School Reunion, and I was helping plan a wine tasting event in our downtown area.

Lots have things have been going on around the new house.  Cabinets have started showing up, the tile is almost done, doors are installed, etc.  Even though it should all be complete in two or three weeks, it still seems like moving day is so far, far away!

But here’s some progress photos for your viewing pleasure:

So what do you think so far?!

It looks like we’re on target for our October 1 move-in date.  We are trying as hard as we can!  If we don’t get moved in then, it will be November before we can move…October is proving to be a busy month so far.

Siding Preview

Pretty!

Let’s all do the Copper Shingle Jingle!

Look at our pretty copper roof!  My hubs put that on all by himself (with a little help from his father-in-law).  You should be impressed!  We’ve gotten lots of compliments on it - I’m very proud of the hubs.

I don’t think I ever put up a picture of the stone all completed…so here it is.  I’m ready for some siding now!

IMG00077-20100718-1832

And here’s our front door!  It’s not stained yet, so don’t pay attention to that.  We’ll stain it after the siding is done and we have a better idea of what color we want.

Also, the drywall was started on Saturday.  The bonus room, upstairs bath, and the front bedroom are all done; and half of the back bedroom is finished.  It should all be put up and ready for painting in 3 weeks.

Eeek!  Who wants to help me pick out paint???
